Our programs
RECREATIONAL LEVEL
Our recreational program introduces girls aged 4 and older to the foundational techniques and apparatus of rhythmic gymnastics. Through our skill development program, gymnasts progress through six levels, receiving personal progress reports and participating in Badge Day evaluations twice a year. This program emphasizes developing a positive attitude towards physical activity, enhancing hand-eye coordination, and improving concentration and body movement. Recreational gymnasts also get opportunities to perform in supportive environments, such as the annual Spring Gymnaestrada and various club events throughout the year.

PRE-COMPETITIVE LEVEL
The pre-competitive Rising Stars program is designed for young, talented gymnasts aged 5 to 8 who are ready to practice rhythmic gymnastics twice a week for a total of 6 hours. This program focuses on skill development in flexibility, dance, and apparatus handling, preparing gymnasts for future competitive opportunities. Rising Stars benefit from a specialized training regimen that lays the foundation for their transition into competitive rhythmic gymnastics.
More information
Entry to the Rising Stars program is by audition only. It is designed for girls who are interested in, and ready for the challenge and more intensive training in rhythmic gymnastics. It is specifically designed for young gymnasts from 5-8 years old. Training includes flexibility, dance and gymnastics body technique and developing the skills necessary to move into Interclub or Provincial/National level at the coach’s discretion.
Rising Stars gymnasts will train for 6 hours per week. The training times are set by the Head Coach in early August.
All advanced gymnasts train in athletic attire that can be purchased through the club from your daughter’s coach. Hair should be securely fastened in a bun for each training session.
For club events, gymnasts will be required to purchase an outfit suitable for the group routine and chosen by the coach. If equipment is needed, it can be purchased through the club’s equipment suppliers upon the advice and recommendation from the coach.
Gymathon – November: This event is an opportunity for the gymnasts to enjoy the sport with gymnasts from all of our programs. It helps to raise money for the club activities and its various programs, with a portion of the proceeds going to support a charity in need.
In-House Competitions – January-March: National, Provincial and Interclub gymnasts compete for the first time in preparation for the competition season. Rising Stars are encouraged to attend this event as it is a great chance to observe rhythmic gymnastics in a competition environment and learn more about the club and the sport and what they may wish to do in the future.
Kanata Cup – April: The club’s annual competition. All advanced training gymnasts and families volunteer and attend this event. It is a great opportunity to support the club and see rhythmic gymnastics in a formal competition environment with participating clubs from other provinces.
KRSG Spring Gymnaestrada – late spring: This is KRSG’s end of season show. This event celebrates rhythmic gymnastics from all of our programs. Rising Stars showcase a group performance during this event.
KRSG Evening Gala – June: This is the final club event of the season. All gymnasts gather together for food and games to celebrate the accomplishments of the season.

COMPETITIVE LEVEL
Our Competitive program caters to gymnasts aged 6 and up, with different streams to match their commitment and skill level: Interclub, Provincial, Pre-National, National, and AGG. The interclub program is ideal for those seeking a competitive experience without the intensity of provincial training, while the provincial program challenges gymnasts to compete at the provincial level. The pre-national and national programs focus on preparing gymnasts for higher-level competitions, emphasizing both physical and mental development. AGG emphasizes aesthetic group routines, highlighting expressive, synchronized movements in a team setting. Each stream is tailored to motivate gymnasts and foster their growth in the sport.
More information
The National program is designed for gymnasts with above average strength, flexibility and independence who want to participate in competitions at the national level with the possibility of one day competing internationally. This program promotes development into High Performance with the objective to reach the Canadian National Team Pool. Training focuses on establishing and developing skills and abilities for national level competition, including both physical and mental preparation. The program requires substantial commitment and dedication from the gymnast and their parents.
KRSG provincial gymnasts learn rhythmic gymnastics skills and perform and compete with 2 or three routines each year, with the type of equipment and skill level required determined by which level the gymnast is in.
Levels are set by age and skill, with the “C” level requiring the most difficulty. The gymnasts compete across Ontario, with most of the competitions being held in Toronto.
There are two provincial qualifying meets held each year. The top 60% of gymnasts in each category advance to the Ontario Championships in June. The other 40% of gymnasts advance to the RhythmFest Competition, held as a sister meet with the Ontario Championships. Gymnasts will also be invited to out of province invitational competition (typically hosted in Montreal) based on the available dates.
Aesthetic Group Gymnastics, known as AGG, is a unique form of gymnastics that emphasizes the beauty of fluid and natural body movements. Participants engage in graceful, rhythmic, and dynamic routines that showcase a seamless transition from one movement to the next, embodying strength and elegance with each motion.
In AGG, a routine’s choreography must feature diverse body movements including, but not limited to, waves, swings, balances, pivots, jumps, and dance steps. These movements demand a high level of physical attributes such as flexibility, speed, strength, and coordination, facilitating the appearance of effortless execution.
Teams comprising 6 to 10 gymnasts must work in unison, demonstrating impeccable teamwork. The choreography should be technically proficient and tell a story or convey emotions through the expressive interpretation of the music.
AGG stands at the intersection of artistry and athleticism, challenging competitors to blend emotional expression with physical prowess. This discipline prioritizes flexibility, balance, speed, and rhythmic coordination, highlighting movement’s aesthetic and expressive qualities.
Training hours are set by the Head Coach. Provincial gymnasts are split into different training groups and have different numbers of hours depending on their competition level. You will be informed of the training hours by the first week of August. If you have questions about the training hours, please communicate with the Head Coach.
Most of the gymnasts compete individually. Once the gymnast’s individual skills are well developed, and there is a suitable partner or group whose skills are complimentary, the coaches can create a group, duo or trio. Group participation emphasizes teamwork, unity and an increased focus on hand-eye coordination. Group training is often complimentary to individual training.
The coach will inform the families of what uniform is needed for training. Typical training attire can include: black body suit, short/leggings, club training top, and toe slippers. Used competition suits may be for sale at a club event early in the season. Purchasing a tank top and toe slippers is done through your daughter’s coach. Expect to buy toe slippers frequently as they do wear out, and a good pair is needed for competitions. Provincial gymnasts will need a club track suit for competition attendance. Information on uniform purchases are emailed to families early in the season.
All gymnasts must wear their hair in a bun for each training.
Equipment can be ordered through your daughter’s coach.
Competition suits are required for competitions. The suit should match the equipment/music being used in the routine. Always check with the coach before your making competition suit purchases. Used suits may range from $150-$350 depending on the original cost, decoration and wear and tear. New suits can be purchased from a variety of locations and can range from $300 and up. There are links available at krsg.org website and suggestions can also be found from other advanced families.

Provincial gymnasts also compete in two provincial qualifying meets and Ontario Championships and/or RhythmFest in June. Invitational meets, similar to Kanata Cup, are held by other clubs throughout the season, and coaching staff will determine which one’s KRSG will attend. All competitions have an entry fee that is self-funded by the participating families.
Please encourage your gymnast to focus on her own skills and improvement. The coaches choregraph competitive routines with each gymnast’s talents in mind. Be sure your gymnast comes well prepared (has all the items she needs) and is on time for each practice as this will set her up for success.
The club has an open communication policy. We encourage families to communicate with coaches/club administration if you have any questions or concerns.
Club administration will also provide the club handbook at the start of each season which will include important information about the processes of the club for advanced training families.
